While AI tools are efficient at creating basic timelines or broad school lists, they cannot provide nuanced, personal insight. Every applicant is a unique individual, and our expertise lies in identifying and amplifying the specific qualities that make a student stand out to admissions committees. This personal approach is something an algorithm simply cannot replicate.
3. Do you use AI?
We utilize AI exclusively as a research tool to help identify "hidden gem" institutions that may align with a student’s specific criteria. Beyond that, our work is deeply human. We focus on getting to know our students including their core values, motivations, and potential contributions to a campus. This genuine relationship is the heart of our craft, ensuring we find schools that fit the unique academic, social, and financial needs of each student.
4. Can a student use AI to draft essays or applications?
No. With experience as a university application reader, I can confirm that admissions officers easily identify AI-generated text. It simply lacks the raw, authentic perspective of a high school student. To maintain integrity and maximize success, we prohibit AI-generated content in any portion of the application process.
5. Do you write the essays for the student?
Absolutely not. We are collaborative mentors, not ghostwriters. We facilitate brainstorming and provide rigorous developmental editing, but every word must come from the student. Their authentic voice is what makes an application successful.
6. Can you guarantee admission to a "dream school"?
No one can honestly or ethically make that promise. Decisions are based on shifting institutional priorities beyond any counselor's control. What we do guarantee is that we will sharpen a student’s competitive edge by helping them build an application that is impossible to ignore.
7. What is your take on "Passion Projects"?
We support them only when the interest is sincere. Admissions officers have a keen sense for activities designed solely to impress. However, if a student has a real curiosity -- from building a niche mobile app to deepening a long-term service commitment -- we are eager to help them transform that vision into a reality.
8. What is your approach to standardized testing?
As many institutions return to test-required policies, we generally advise students to take the SAT or ACT at least once. Based on those initial scores, we help develop a tailored testing strategy. Please note that we provide strategic advice rather than direct tutoring services.
9. If my student had academic struggles, do they still need a counselor?
Students with B averages often benefit the most from our services. In today's competitive climate, many capable students feel discouraged and overlooked. We specialize in identifying fantastic opportunities for all students.
10. Do you work with international applications?
We do not provide consulting for international students seeking to study in the U.S. We do, however, assist U.S.-based students interested in applying to universities abroad, treating these unique international requirements as a collaborative effort with the family.
11. What is your stance on Gap Years?
We are strong advocates for them. A well-structured gap year provides a meaningful opportunity for growth and reflection. We are happy to help design a strategy that ensures a gap year is both purposeful and revitalizing.
12. When is the best time to start working together?
We begin partnerships with families between 9th and 11th grade. The early years focus on academic planning and extracurricular growth, while the intensive school selection and application workshop phase kicks off in 11th grade.
13. Can you help with financial aid?
We offer helpful resources, application checklists, and strategies for securing merit scholarships. However, we do not offer professional financial planning or legal advice.
14. Do you support students with diverse backgrounds and different needs?
Absolutely. We welcome all students and have experience supporting neurodivergent, LGBTQ+, first-generation, and other students with a wide range of identities, backgrounds, and experiences. Our approach is individualized—we get to know each student and help identify colleges where they can feel supported, connected, and thrive.
